Our members love owning their own golf carts. Why you ask? Well, mainly, this masterstroke of convenience means one thing: island living without the hustle and bustle of traffic, pollution and noise. Yes, that’s right. You don’t need a car to get around here. Whether you want to enjoy some fun in the sun at the beach or pool, dine out or go for a workout at the Tennis & Fitness Center, you simply get in your own golf cart and you’re where you want to be in a matter of five minutes or less. And that also means you can keep your set of golf clubs in your cart so when you’re ready to hit a ball or two, you can just hop in and head on over to the putting green, driving range or 1st tee!

Convenience aside, there is nothing more enjoyable than taking an open-air ride amid some of Florida’s most diverse landscapes. Along the way, chances are high that you will get to see white pelicans along the lakes or an otter family crossing the road. Every turn welcomes another view of the peaceful, natural surroundings as you pass and exchange waves with your friendly neighbors.

If you’re someone who wants to get close to nature and still enjoy the creature comforts of home, then Orchid Island is the place for you. The amenities are second to none. Orchid Island works hard to preserve a way of life for not only the natural neighbors who live on the Treasure Coast but for its members as well. What’s even better, Orchid Island stretches from the Atlantic Ocean to the Indian River, and members enjoy more than a mile of private beach access.

This private community is committed to providing a level of service that stands out from the rest. Golfing here is unparalleled, as the Arnold Palmer designed, 18-hole course holds Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary status for its commitment to natural preservation.

Go on Safari
Now through September, McKee Botanical Garden is going wild! Thanks to sculptures made by the Ark Collective in Nairobi, eagle-eyed guests can find curious creatures hiding out in the garden. Can you spot the elephant babies running through the leaves or the hippo watching from the palms? If you’re lucky, you might be able to find the 16-foot giraffe, towering over the trees! This is a great place to take the kids for the day.

Bike the Historic Jungle Trail
Perfect for older kids, this 8-mile ride will take you through Pelican Island National Wildlife Refuge, past a scenic stopping point by the Indian River Lagoon, and all the way to the Captain Forster Hammock Preserve. This important piece of Florida history was constructed in the 1920s, so that fruit growers could take their produce to the market. Want a shorter ride? Part of the trail cuts right through Orchid Island, so you can start there. Ride out a little bit out and then turn back when you’re ready. The trail is easy, maintained terrain and it’s almost impossible to get lost!

Hit the Beach
Enjoy Florida’s true gem at Orchid Island’s private beach. Build sandcastles, play tag in the surf or enjoy swimming through the cool blue waters. Keep an eye out for some of the many amazing animals that call Orchid Island home—bald eagles, ospreys, dolphins, even baby turtles if you’re lucky!

It’s no secret that at Orchid Island residents are always living on island time. From long walks on the beach to teeing off on the Arnold Palmer-designed golf course, Florida living often feels like a year-round vacation at Orchid Island. But it’s the on-trend West Indies architecture that truly embodies the Orchid Island lifestyle. With panoramic window views, covered porches and transitional exteriors, this style is like a breath of fresh air. Each clean line adds to the perfect blend of contemporary and traditional that the West Indies architecture brings. While there are unique and luxurious modern elements to the design, it is the quintessential island-casual lifestyle at Orchid Island that really makes it special.

Born in the Caribbean islands, the West Indies architecture is defined by beautiful columns, louvers, railings and shutters. The trendy style is known for its distinguished symmetry with rooms, doors and windows arranged with emphasis on a central axis. Like its high ceilings with beam detail, the architecture’s symmetry was designed to be more than just appealing. Both features create cross-ventilation for a cool tropical breeze. The design’s impact is stunning and offers a fresh airy style for every room. It wouldn’t be island time, though, if we didn’t spend countless hours outside, which is why we love the style’s inviting outdoor living areas. West Indies architecture brings life to our Orchid Island lifestyle. It comes as no surprise that it has been a distinguishing characteristic of the community.

When it comes to oceanfront living, many envision breathtaking views of the ocean, soft sand on our feet and the sound of waves gently rolling against the shore. All of which becomes an even more heightened experience when framed by the West Indies architecture of Orchid Island’s private Beach Club. Large windows and open-air balconies overlook the swimming pool, private cabanas and beach walkover. Entire walls open up to large verandas that offer views of the ocean, bringing the outside in.

Orchid Island is well-known for its cherished island way of life. The Beach Club’s intimate layout creates the perfect environment for a retreat getaway that never has to end. Orchid Island’s secluded beach offers more than a mile of private oceanfront, along with beachside services. Not to mention the resort-style pool and amenities such as tennis, pickleball and a fitness center available to members.

Living a healthy lifestyle is easy at Orchid Island thanks to the community’s Tennis & Fitness Center with over 11,000 square feet devoted to healthy living. With licensed and knowledgeable personal trainers, the member-owned club tailors programs designed to guide and motivate every personal fitness quest. Onsite physical therapists can develop a personalized treatment plan for those in need of physical rehab. With so much going on, it’s no wonder that Orchid Island’s director of fitness, wellness, and spa, Denise Duda, is always kept on her toes.

Though Duda now spends her days helping others fall in love with fitness, she hasn’t always worked in the fitness industry. Her career began in resort management and in-house customer service training at Seascape Beach Resort & Conference Center in California. However, as many people well understand, your first career isn’t necessarily the one that you stick with. In the early 1990s, Duda took a step back from her hospitality career to take an overall look at her life and found that her true passion was in making a difference in the lives of those around her. “I loved working in my industry,” says Duda, “but I wanted to make a difference in someone’s life.”

Now, Duda dedicates her time to working directly with people, building relationships and helping people on their fitness journey. Duda began with her own studio where she was named one of Brevard County’s top personal trainers by Space Coast Living magazine. She then went on to become director of operations at the Brevard County YMCA Family & Wellness Center, before eventually finding her way to Orchid Island.

At Orchid Island, Duda has the chance to make a difference in someone’s life every day by helping residents lead a healthier lifestyle.

With Orchid Island’s calendar jam packed with activities, members have the opportunity to be busy, moving and on the-go—which sometimes means they can be in a little need of some R and R. Members have the opportunity to relax and indulge in the extensive selection of spa treatments offered at Orchid Island’s day spa. The luxurious spa offers a long list of services such as rejuvenating facials, body treatments and massages. After a tough match on the tennis courts, or a long day on the golf course, or just for a treat, Orchid Island’s spa is ready to take you away.

The Spa at Orchid Island, which has two treatment rooms, can be found at the Beach Club. For those who play golf and tennis, the therapeutic massage can be an excellent preventive treatment. Not only will it reduce the occurrence of injuries, but it can also help relax the muscles.

Besides instructing and running the operations of the fitness club and spa, Duda spends most of her time working with members. Her fitness classes and personalized programs take place in the state-of-the-art Tennis & Fitness Center. Occasionally, her classes incorporate Orchid Island’s breathtaking scenery by including a beach workout.

Orchid Island also has personalized training, in addition to its fun and lively exercise classes. The classes, taught by any of the four or five fitness instructors, are exciting and current and can help contribute to personalized goals. Personalized training and care offers exclusive and comprehensive advantages. With wear and tear comes the need to make sure that what you do is correct for your body and your individual physical needs. “It’s important to make sure members are taking care of their bodies’ individual needs, says Duda. “Each member is different and so are their bodies’ requirements.”

Health and wellness is built into Orchid Island’s core. Duda makes sure to keep in constant contact with the chef in order to make sure members’ individual needs are met in the kitchen as well as the gym. “The chef is very open to working in tandem to provide healthy options,” she says. “What you eat is going to affect you as much as exercise does, and if you’re trying to lose weight, nutrition is the biggest hurdle.” Even though the menus at the Pool Grille, Golf Club and Beach Club have some staples, they’re subject to change daily. The partnership helps to make sure there are clean and healthy menu options available at all dining venues. Alongside a local nutritionist who is available for members on request, Duda recommends menu options to guests and members to help them reach their goals.

Duda’s passion is palpable, which is naturally encouraging to members of the Club. “The most rewarding thing about [my job] is the member interactions and watching people reach their goals,” she says. “It’s not just weight loss. Maybe it’s increasing healthy cholesterol or fighting an illness.”

Whether members are beginning a new training program or they are new to the Club, Duda and her staff help them get started by stepping on a scale that quickly measures bone weight, muscle mass and body fat. The personalized and customized training program of an individual member will outline whatever the member is trying to improve. “We start at whatever baseline they have, and try to improve on that,” Duda explains, describing what a personalized program might look like. Once members have tried this super scale, known as the InBody, they can check their progress against those original measurements.

At Orchid Island, there’s always a way to get active. Members can enjoy an active lifestyle year-round thanks to the variety of amenities in the community. With such an exquisite view, how could you not want to take to the golf course, explore the Treasure Coast, or sign up for a pickleball lesson?
