Nothing brings a crowd together better than a good show. The Riverside Theatre, a non-profit professional theatre located in Vero Beach, FL, has brought residents together since its inception in 1973. From old-school musicals to contemporary dramas and recent Broadway hits, the collection of shows offers a wide variety of cultural diversions to please any guest. Discover just a few of the reasons guests love to enjoy Riverside Theatre.
This rich, cultural campus came from very humble beginnings. After being built in 1973, Riverside’s programming originally included productions put on by local children attending classes in theatre education. However, as time progressed and programming popularity increased, so did the Theatre’s need to physically expand. With unwavering support from the surrounding community, including the residents of Orchid Island, Riverside Theatre underwent significant renovations in 2017. Orchid Island Golf & Beach Club was proud to support this endeavor, and its Members donated a significant amount to renovate the main lobby. Also added during this time was a mainstage audience chamber and the secondary Waxlax Stage. Today, each Riverside Theatre show offers a different cultural diversion every time patrons take their seats.
“The theatre brings an undeniable cultural allure to the area that is very much appreciated by our residents and Members,” says Anne Torline, Real Estate Broker at Orchid Island. “They host so many beautiful productions and such a wide variety of events that there is always something to look forward to. It’s no wonder so many of our residents are even seasonal ticket holders.”
The main series of shows offered every year at Riverside Theatre are well-curated to include an intriguing variety of styles. In the 2021-2022 season, patrons can expect to see classics like Rodger & Hammerstein’s “Carousel” to comedies like Ken Ludwig’s “A Comedy of Tenors”. Rounding out the season includes stories of popular artists like Gloria Estefan, Billy Elliot, and the Songs of John Denver. Wild and hilarious, the Theatre’s Comedy Zone is the Treasure Coast’s best stage for Live Stand-Up Comedy on select Friday and Saturday nights all year long. Other fun events that happen throughout the year include Vegas Nights, the dueling pianos Howl at the Moon Experience, and free outdoor concerts featuring musicians of all genres.
Along with theatrical productions, the Riverside also presents a variety of other events that keep the building buzzing all year long. One of the most popular is the Distinguished Lecturer Series. This incredible program’s purpose is to bring influential people together in Vero to present their thoughts and insights on national and global affairs. This thought-provoking series also includes a Q&A session for the speaker to answer any questions after each lecture. Previous speakers of note include George W. Bush, Bob Woodward, and Tom Brokaw.
Along with the nearby Riverside Theatre, Orchid Island Beach and Golf Club members have a plethora of cultural events to attend within their community.
